Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of CSSC, delivered the 50th Aframax tanker

news-details

On April 12, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. signed and delivered the first ship of the 114,000-ton Aframax series of product oil tankers for the Greek company ENESEL SA 50 days ahead of schedule.

The ship is the 50th aframax tanker built so far since Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding delivered the first aframax tanker "Special Mission" in April 2005, demonstrating its long-lasting influence, Competitiveness and vitality have further consolidated the leading position in the industry.

At present, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has received a total of 64 orders for Aframax tankers, including 11 new orders in 2023, accounting for about 50% of the global market share; 50 ships have been delivered, accounting for about 50% of the global Aframax tanker 5% of the operating fleet.

Independent research and development, continuous iteration

The ship has a total length of 249.95 meters, a molded width of 44 meters, a molded depth of 21.2 meters, a design draft of 13.5 meters, a design speed of 14.5 knots, and a cargo hold that can carry more than 800,000 barrels of refined oil or crude oil products.

This type of ship is the latest generation of Aframax oil tanker independently developed and designed by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Through comprehensive hydrodynamic performance optimization, hydrodynamic energy-saving duct and vortex elimination fin configuration, main engine type selection optimization and other measures, the energy efficiency of the whole ship has been improved. The level has been significantly improved, and the EEDI indicators verified by real ships have reached the requirements of the third phase of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2025 ahead of schedule. At the same time, the emission of nitrogen oxides meets the requirements of Tier III, and the emission of sulfur oxides meets the requirements of 0.1%. It is a green ship model integrating environmental protection, energy saving, safety and economy.

Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has complete and full chain R&D, design and construction capabilities for Aframax tankers, independent hydrodynamic design, structural design and finite element calculation capabilities, as well as rich experience in electromechanical system design and supporting. Adhering to the design concept of green, energy-saving, safe and reliable, the company has completed the research and development and iteration of five generations of ship types, and formed a series of ship types such as conventional power optimization type and liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel power type, and reserves ammonia fuel, methanol Energy-saving ship types such as fuel, fan booster, and air layer drag reduction, and actively explore the R&D and application of new technologies such as CO2 capture and fuel cell propulsion, seize market opportunities, and lead the green transformation of Aframax tankers.

Lean shipbuilding, efficiency improvement

Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding actively promotes lean shipbuilding, continuously improves production efficiency, and forms an efficient management model in the whole process of Aframax tanker design, construction, delivery and service.

At the same time, based on the huge system engineering management requirements derived from the design and construction of domestic large-scale cruise ships, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding reconstructed the entire process of enterprise design, production and management through digital transformation. During the construction of the "Cavafys", the whole ship material management, order modification and dispatch management, inspection opinion management and other link processes have been incorporated into the one-stop management of the new generation shipbuilding enterprise management system SWS TIME platform, which has greatly improved It maximizes the benefits of construction management and releases huge productivity.

The construction period of the "Cavafy" in the dock is only 64 days, and the delivery period after the completion of the sea trial is only 15 days, which are reduced by 31% and 48% respectively.
